“Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?”
This quote reminds me that mindful communication is more than choosing the right words. It’s choosing words that reflect clarity, intention, and care. When I pause before speaking, I give myself a moment to consider the impact of what I’m about to say. This small pause can transform conversations, prevent misunderstandings, and strengthen relationships.
Mindfulness teaches me to speak with awareness rather than habit. When my words are true, necessary, and kind, they bring calm instead of tension. They create connection instead of distance.
Practice the Three-Second Pause
Before responding to someone today, pause for a brief moment. Ask yourself inwardly:
“Is what I’m about to say accurate? Does it need to be said? Will it bring harm or kindness?”
This short pause helps you choose words that reflect your intention and values.
