Practice the âName It, Tame Itâ Technique
When your mind starts to swirl with thoughts, donât try to wrestle them to the ground. Just give them a name. If youâre feeling anxious, say âThis is anxiety.â If your shoulders are tight and your breath is shallow, say âThis is stress.â Youâre not labeling yourself â youâre labeling a moment.
Why? Because naming an emotion can shrink its intensity. Neuroscientists call it âaffect labeling,â but we just call it a power move in heels. It gives you a beat to respond rather than react. Over time, this gentle habit helps you make space between stimulus and response â and thatâs where your best decisions live.
Try it next time your to-do list mutates into a monster. You might just find a little more calm hiding in the chaos.
