âAltogether, the idea of meditation is not to create states of ecstasy or absorption, but to experience being.â â Chögyam Trungpa
Chögyam Trungpaâs insight into meditation reminds us that the goal of mindfulness is not to achieve heightened states of bliss or detachment, but rather to be fully present in the act of being. Meditation is about cultivating awareness of what is, without chasing extraordinary experiences or trying to escape from reality. It's an invitation to embrace the moment just as it is, with all its imperfections, and to connect with a deeper sense of presence. By letting go of expectations, we discover that simply being present is a profound and transformative experience in itself.
đ§â Mindful Living Tip - Embracing the Experience of Being
To practice meditation with the goal of simply being, rather than seeking altered states, try these mindfulness techniques:
Focus on Presence, Not Perfection: During your meditation, let go of the need to reach a certain state. Instead, focus on simply being present with your breath, body, and thoughts as they are. Notice any sensations or emotions that arise without trying to change them.
Gentle Observation: Observe your thoughts and feelings with a sense of curiosity and acceptance. Let them come and go, much like clouds passing in the sky, without attaching to them or seeking to control the experience.
Release Expectations: Before each meditation session, set an intention to release any expectations. Whether you feel peaceful, restless, or neutral during your practice, accept it as part of the process of being fully present with yourself.
